I would think any upholstery shop in your area could help you.

I found some marine vinyl at a Joannes Fabric store in the Twin Cities.

Try www.defender.com, West Marine, Boaters World.

My 1957 Thomspon (Peshtigo) Sea Lancer has twin '57 Johnson 35 HP outboards. I just measured the transom and she is about 34 inches on the flat . There is plenty of room for these two motors.

A bandsaw is a handy dandy tool. I have done major restorations to 4 boats and I do NOT have a bandsaw! Most woodworkers think I am nuts not to have one. It is on my list of stuff to purchase, but I just have not had the spare cash to get one. So, you can get by without one. In the few cases where I...

Chris-Craft purchased Thompson Boat Company of New York, Inc. at Cortland, NY in January 1962. It became a wholly owned subsidiary of Chris-Craft. Boats after this purchase had the "Thompson" hullside logos on the planking near the stern and a "Chris-Craft" logo on the dashboard....

Can you steam bend and clamp it directly to the boat at it's final location? If yes, do it, let it remain clamped for a day. Then remove it, do any shaping needed. CPES the heck out of it, and install.

CPES does NOT encapsulate the wood - like epoxy. CPES is a sealer. It actually displaces moisture.

If you have rotten wood, remove and replace it.

I know very little about inboard/outboards. But I am sure you will have to remove the outdrive to get the engine out of the boat. How it's done is unknown to me.

I bet the "boot" will have to be replaced too. This is the rubber membrane outside of the transom.

CPES can not penetrate thru paint or varnish or other finishes. You must have bare wood.

I see no problem with applying CPES to the hull planking from the outside. It will not hurt a thing. I do it all the time.

It would help to know what kind of boat you have. Lapstrake, cedar strip, royalex, etc... Made by whom and what year? Sound like you are describing the gunwale. Is it steam bent? Ribs and frames are interchangable terms. Altho "ribs' are in human bodies and "frames" are in boats. That...

In my previous post I mentioned the front to back "flatness" of keelson and stringers.

Yes, there is a slight crown side to side of the floor boards.

The top of the stringers are actually at a higher elevation than the top of the keelson.

Yup, I agree. Keelson and stringers should be flat on the skyward side, as John says. I have my '57 Sea Lancer (Peshtigo) torn apart right now. I looked her over and the top sides of keelson and stringers sure look flat. I didn't do any measurments or put a level on things, but visually these items ...

I should add - I had lumber in 8 or 9 foot lengths. Therefore I had to scarf glue end to end to get the approximately 18 ft. I required. I also steam bent the portion at the bow to bend it around the curve of the hull.

I assume you are talking about the half round trim that seperates the painted portion of the hull planking form the varnished upper most plank (shearstrake). I described on this forum how I made new material using 3/4" Philippine mahogany boards. Router, table saw, hand saw, and hand sanding di...
