Hi AJR, I'm not sure of the particular color of your 59' but what I have done for the last couple of motors is use the custom mix capabilities of the autmotive paint stores. if you have a clean sample a couple of inches square they can scan it and custom mix as little as a pint. I have had real good...

John, It's good to hear that you made it thru pretty much intact, from what I see on the news many were not so fortunate.

John in Crosby TX , check in

John, how did you make out during the big storm? I hope that you made it thru with minimal damage. My recollection is that you are on or pretty close to the bay and sufferer some damage in a storm a couple of years back. We are getting three days of steady rain from Ike all the way up here in MI. Jo...

I've painted several motors with good results. The process depends greatly on the current state of deteriation. If you just have faded paint and minor areas of exposed aluminium.... Clean and degrease use something like TSP. Lightly scuff sand. Prime with a self etching primer made for aluminum (zin...

A big ditto to everything Lancerboy and John said. I'm running a 1961 Evinrude 75 hp on my Sea Lancer... running around out on lake Huron and Erie. In other words I trust this very reliable motor. I also have a 1957 Evinrude Lark 35 hp on an Aluminum Lone Star, we were out on Lake Huron yesterday, r...

I have successfully scarfed a number of rib ends on my Sea Lancer. This was done 7 - 8 years ago with much use in the interum... no problems. Be sure to make a good long well fitting scarf joint, at least 2 inches long. I used epoxie for the joint only. When replacing the wood screws that go thru th...

Sea Lancer floor molding?

for all you Sea Lancer guys, A question on the moldings that go around the edge of the floor decking. My 1957 has the molding ( 1 in. X 1/2 in.) along both port and stb'd edges but not athwart ships at the aft edge that butts up to the rear seat riser. Should there also be a molding there? Now I wen...

seems I've heard of sliding the boat off of the trailer on to a half dozen or so old car tires. I would think that that should work OK. Start by tilting the trailer all the way up and gradually transfering the transom back onto the tires laying on the ground.

My $0.02 worth, any mind you, I'm no bending expert but I have picked up on a couple of helpful tid bits. 1. it's the heat more than the water that facilitates a successful bend. yes you do need both but I think the moisture helps most by conducting the heat into the core of the wood. 2. yes the met...

Bill, great work. This is no small task you are into... when you are finished you can be real proud of your accomplishments. Now, as to your question... Since I did not replace my stem piece, I simply cut a notch in the sky side of the new keelson to match. My opinion in your situation... do the sam...

Now the following is just my un-educated opinion, there are a lot of savvy guys on this site... but I'd bet that the factory didn't invest the time to pre-shape a rolling bevel on the rub rail stock before installing it to the hull. Seems that if you have a piece of sufficiently oversize , straight ...

Bill, it sounds like you are making significant progress. The task seems daunting looking at it from the starting line, but step by step progress will get you there. As for the keelson height question, and others please comment, my recollection is that the top and bottom lines of the keelson from tr...

Bill, I believe that John is correct. The floor is flat from side to side and front to back, so you should be able to pick up reference points around the perimeter from the where the floor decking butted up to the ribs. The entire floor support system should come up to the plane defined by those ref...

If you only need a couple of feet... and even if you don't have a round over bit for your router you could form the half round on the edge of a wider board using a hand plane and sand paper. Then rip saw off the formed edge to give you the correct thickness of molding.
