My $0.02 worth... the "old guy" method sounds like it would work great. (I keep telling my sons that old guys can be pretty smart too !). As for intermediate clamps, they may not be necessary but if I were doing this I would have a few clamp bars ready in case I needed to apply a little pr...

Peter, What do you mean by a "torqued hull" ? Do not misconstrue the comments about prop torque as somehow imparting a perminant twist in the hull. The effect of prop torque is to impart a slight list when under way at considerable ( full) power. Prop torque would have no influance on the ...

From all of your pics it looks like the boat is listing to Starboard (right) not port (left). If the load is balanced as you say, then I suggest carefully checking the motor to ensure that it is centered on the hull. I found that my 240 pound Evinrude was actually mounted an 1 1/2 off center. That c...

ditto all of the above suggestions/ comments. Also a motor that has been sitting for 5 years most likley will need to have the carburetors cleaned of old gunky gas residue. and ... the breaker points in the magneto are likley oxidized and need to be cleaned before you will get any spark. I too stron...

Check McMaster- Carr. They have an on-line catalog and no minimum order.

Motor controls

Most all classic Evinrudes, Johnsons and many others are set up for both tiller control and cable control. Just look on the throttle side and the gear shift side for the remote cable anchor clips (trunions) ( or the pads for attaching same) , also the little studs or bayonet hole for attaching the c...

OK , this sounds like a challenge. Can you give us a more complete discription of the face of the gage. Actual lettering. Is there a needle?

Yes this is a Thompson but I'm not expert on the various years / models. I'm sure one of the guys with more expiertiese will fill you in on the particulars. Great pictures, these would be helpful in answering future construction questions posted by others... perhaps AJR would consider keeping these ...

If my memory serves me correctly I think the rule of thumb for scarf joints is an 8 to 1 slope. For a 7/8 board that would be a 7 inch long joint. if I'm off on the slope someone chim in please. A tapered jig that clamps onto the board/gunnel/rib to be cut is the way to go, lot easier and more acura...

Rich, I vote for a nice long scarf joint. I'm guessing that the gunnel on that flexable hull has to be a pretty heavely stressed member.

My guess is that all will be OK with your impeller. A brand new impeller with nice flexable blades should not have a problem getting reoriented. When installing your next impeller remember that the rotation is clockwise when viewed from the top, same as the motor. Also be careful not to pinch a blad...

Rich, That's an interesting history on your boat. Not much different than many others I suspect. We ran my 57' Sea Lancer for a couple of years with what turned out to be some pretty questionable structural components before I finally got motivated to do the necessary repairs. In retrospect, I guess...

Welcome aboard Rich, Well your boat must be pretty special if Andreas admits to not ever having seen one before. It sounds like you are getting off to a good start on the restoration. As for the wood restoration you won't go wrong following ARJ'r suggestions. Relatively speaking, we may be neighbors...
