My Mercruiser I/O Experience

Got my Sea Lancer out for the first time on June 2nd (see attached photo), and had it out a total three times last month. The 120-HP Mercruiser engine had a loud "ticking" sound that concerned me, along with the crankcase being over-pressurize (blow-by). Performed a compression check and g...

Rub Rail Installation

I got some of the Wefco 0109G rub rail for by boat, and am tryIng to decide how it gets fastened to the gunwale. Currently, I only have a kinda half-round aluminum on there. I'm wondering if that or something like it is used. Help! Thanks.

Re: Location of Windshield on 1968 Sea Lancer

And, I think I confirmed my theory. While working on it last weekend, installing the new, mahogany dashboard (the P.O. made an unstained, varnished oak dashboard that didn't match anything!), I was right next to the "OBC" plate (see attached photo), that lists the maximum carrying capacity...

Convertible Top/Camper Top/Mooring Cover Patterns

After getting a Sea Lancer dimensions drawing from Andreas today, I realize there may be some other original factory information out there. I was wondering if anyone has pattern drawings for the different tops and covers offered by Thompson. My Sea Lancer came with the supports for the camper top, a...

Re: Location of Windshield on 1968 Sea Lancer

Awesome drawing, Andreas! I should of known you'd come up with something like this. It's exactly what I needed. Thanks so much. To respond to Peter's comments, my boat is actually registered as a 1970, which we know is after Thompson in Peshtigo stopped making wood boats. My guess that it's a 1968 m...

Location of Windshield on 1968 Sea Lancer

And don't say "on top of the boat, in front of the cockpit." :? When I purchased my Sea Lancer in October 2010 (whew!), the windshield was in pieces, in a box. I have finally got to the point where I rebuilt and refinished it, and am ready to attach it to the boat. I tried to use photos to...

Re: "Sea Lancer" Emblem & Dash "Eye Brow"

Thanks a lot, Andreas, for answering my questions. I can live without the "eye brow," but I think a "Sea Lancer" emblem might look pretty cool on my dash. Andreas, I was curious if you ever came across a serial number higher than mine (28444)? Last time we discussed this, you sai...

Re: crusier inc 13 ft. mariner wood windshield trouble

I just ordered some windshield/deck gasket for my Sea Lancer. Because I ran into the same problem as you, I had to find the closest thing to it. I settled on the ordering from Wefco Rubber Manufacturing Co., Inc., since I was also ordering the 0109G rail bumper from them. The gasket is the Wefco Pro...

"Sea Lancer" Emblem & Dash "Eye Brow"

When I was procurring some items for my late-model Sea Lancer last week, the fellow asked me if I had the Sea Lancer emblem that went on the passenger-side of the dash. I told him this was the first I had heard of one. He also asked if I had the "eye brow" for the dash. I guess it's a viny...

Stock Location(s) of Fuel Tank(s)

Hi, everybody. I haven't posted for a while, and for that I truly apologize. My Thompson project is taking a lot longer than expected to finish up, due to life's many interuptions. I have a late model (registered as a "1970", but I know it has to be earlier) Sea Lancer with a Mercruiser 12...

Wood Rot: Repair or Replace???

I'm getting close to completing several R&R jobs on my late-model, Peshtigo-built Sea Lancer w/ I/O. I'm almost done with the mechanical work on the I/O unit, got back my rebuilt windshield, and have new lounge seats coming in this week! I'm starting to look at some of the hull work I might get ...

Well, I did some research of the Thompson Bros. brochures, and came to the following interesting conclusions (based on photos): 1) Not all Sea Lancers came with splash rails. Some brochures show them; some not. 2) Splash rails, like the sides of the windshield, are mounted in the center of the gunwa...

Mounting Splash Rails and Bimini Top Frames

Hi, folks! I haven't posted for a while, but the weather is starting to improve, and I'm getting ready to finish up some things on my late-model Peshtigo-built Sea Lancer. First thing I need assistance with is how the splash rails were mounted, both the location on the gunwale covering boards (insid...
