Chime away Joe. That's whats so great about this site. So is/was the texture on your floor like the back side of a sheet of pegboard? That about the only Masonite type of material that I have seen anymore that has any texture to it. Also. How thick was the original flooring in these boats? I am not ...

Dan. Walnut shells for texture. That is an interesting idea that I have never heard of. Were they the type that are used for blasting the finish off of log homes? Andreas. Thanks for the Brand name and paint codes. I find it interesting that there was no texture on your Off Shore flooring. May have ...

Thanks for the answers guys. Actually Peter I was thinking along the same lines as you but I was going to use rocker panel chip guard for texture and then paint it .That's why I was asking about the color. Andreas. If you have used that color on any of your restorations do you have a name/paint code...

Thompson boat flooring

I am sure that this has been asked and answered before but my search turned up empty. What color was the flooring in the Thompson boats? In particular what color would have been used for my 1955 Off Shore? I know that many of the boats had a textured Masonite type of flooring. Mine currently has mar...

Meranti will work. Many people also use Okume. Be aware that Meranti is available in different colors so,before you make the drive you may want to do some more checking with the supplier. It is a drag when you call some place and the employee nows less about the product than you do. This product is ...

Check Out Famowood.
I believe that they make a more neutral colored type along with their Mahogany
colored one. Plus it is stainable as well.
Available from Classic Boat Connection.

Also if you are concerned about water just make sure your box has a good gasket and all should be well.

My boat has has a motor well and the boxes are mounted high up and to the sides. I am also running twin engines in mine. One has a voltage regulator in it and the other doesn't. If you are concerned about the way it looks you can mount them somewhere less visable but you will have to modify your wir...

The transom on my Off Shore has a paint line running across the bottom of the transom as well. I didn't think that it was original but when I went to strip the bottom that old lead based copper bottom paint was stuck like glue , so it still has a painted transom bottom.(Just fresh paint). I agree wi...

On the transom my Off Shore which is a 1955 there is a joint at the same place as you discribe yours. I think that you will find this joint to be typical of these boats regardless of year built.(Some one will correct me if I am wrong). I would think that most likely this was glued. The question that...

I would be willing to look as well.
Northern Michigan. I am about an hour south of the Mackinaw Bridge.
Central Michigan may be possible as well, depending on how I feel.

To my knowledge many of these steering wheels were dealer installed so there is a wide array of styles. I would keep watch on places like E-bay or craigs list or Fiberclassics web site. Also depending on what happened to your wheel it may be fixable. I just restored the steering wheel on my daughter...

My vote is the same as Andreas. I don't know about the construction methods for your type of boat but If the hull is in as good of shape as you say it is you might just have to reseal the keel. Plus as Far as I am concerned the value of a wooden boat drops considerably once I have seen that it has b...

I agree wirh Andreas in regards to the Z-spar standard mahogany stain.
I am currently using that on my(some what sidetracked) project off shore.

Many people prefer the redder tones that were used by Chris Craft but I think that aganst the white painted hull I prefer the Z-spar Standard color.

You can use Marine Bondo or as 3M calls it Polyester Fairing Filler.
I believe that some form of white lead was used as a primer. I did not strip my bottom down to the wood as I did not want to have to sand or strip thru that old lead based nastiness
