Jd Seems like winter in Wis would be easier on you than Texas Summer. Get heat in garage and get started. Don't mess around with lifting, just strip and flip hull. Will make life a lot easier. I did a concentrated effort and took 3 months mostly all weekend starting at about 4am and ending about 5 o...

In a perfect world a lapstrake boat should not leak any water, they should not require swelling. Just depends on how perfect you want it to be. Any water leaks are a sign of sealant failure and loose fastening. Most boats leak, the more the leak the more the chance of terminal rot, especially if not...

Torque steer will go from left to right as engine is trimed under, goes net. with zero trim and torque reverses as the engine is trimed out. If the torque starts out as left or right depends on if the prop is left or right hand rotation.

The larger the prop the more torque.

If it were only hooked, I believe you are on to something. Why not just install the metal permanently. The two stringers could also be straighten with the same method.

The chance of only having a hook are small without keelsom rot. In which case it needs to be replaced.

If you are backed down ramp, motor may be tilted down allowing carb to flood, causing rough idle.

To prove or disprove, bring portable 6gal tank with hose and try it.

The old v4's have a screen and check valve in the reed plate behind the carb. This screen if probably clogged, causing a rough idle.

Sorry, you probably have the same condition, I found. Look at www.aerialimaging.net/john to see some of my pictures. Don't know how to separate them from the rest of my boats.

Keelson probably needs to be replaced. JoeB also has an idea for keelson replacement, that is not as radical as mine.

I solved the port drain issue, by installing a second drain plug that matches the one on the starboard side.

Be sure to check the inner keel where the ribs tie in, that's where there may be hidden rot of the inner keel (keelsom).

I always thought letting a wood boat swell before using was the correct way, after posting 3 years ago after purchasing my 1960 Cruisers Inc. 202 16', I was told that a properly built lapstrake boat should not leak at all. Double planked boats due need to swell, but plywood boats like a lapstrake sh...
