Re: Thompson Boat Rally 2017

Been a while, but I am considering. How many boats and members do you expect? How many boats showed last time the event was held?

Thanks

I have heard that one new wood boat builder uses Rustolium Industrial enamle on his boats including bottom. I do not know for sure? $9 a quart and 20 something a gallon! I used Pettit Bright Sides on my 1960 Cruiser's in 1994 not a hint of a problem to date. Boat has 200 running hours on it. Just no...

Thanks for the history!

Have you ever seen a open lapstrake, looks very nice!

What is the difference between Thomsom quality and regular quality boats? Never have heard of that before.

Building a stronger transom, does not increase the size outboard the boat can take. Other parts of the boat have lost strength over the years. Even if all parts were strengthened, max hp should not change as the shape of the hull can go just so fast. By rebuilding the transom with more wood you have...

Sorry Chris, just reread about your 150 merc, its a 1994 not 1974, huge difference. The new 150 is probably about another 5 mph faster than the old in line 150. Prop shaft Hp on the old engine was 127, the newer 150 are at least 150 to 160! Very powerful engine. The old ratings were crantshaft hp, t...

I forget about such things here in Texas, our seasons ends every year on Dec 31, and starts Jan 1. Winter boating is a lot nicer than summer, not so hot.

I owned both a 1968 100 hp Evinrude and a 1970 135 Merc in line 6 same cubic inch as the 150. There was about a 4 or 5 mph gain on a heavy 16' running 36mph with the 100. Actually sold it to a guy with twin 1962 Johnson 75's on a 20? or so Cruiser inc. did fine. He loved it. My best question for you...

Chris If you spray gas into a good running engine, it should loose power since it is then too rich. If you do have a clogged high speed jet and continue to run it, you most likely burn a hole in the top of the piston. If you have been having this problem for a while and been running it, if it is a l...

Best way is to find a test prop. They were made by omc to allow full throdle testing without the boat moving. If you obtain full rpm as specified for the test wheel, then the problem is boat or prop. I did buy one of the first 100 hp Evinrudes when they first came out in 1968. Good engines but every...

Here's what I do with my 1960 Evinrude collection, I own the complete 1960 model year, all 8 engines, 3 to 75 Hp I mix up a tank of fresh gas with 12 to 1 oil and gas stabiliser, run the engine for about 10 min, then choke out the engine with floging spray oil. Manually drain float bowl and fuel pum...

If I found a Lyman I liked, and I do like many of their boats, I would simply remove the nails and put it back together with nuts and screws as Cruiser's were built!

Would not be orginal, but most likely better!

Chris My first new outboard was a 1968 100 hp Evinrude, same as yours except for color and remote control. I was an outboard mechanic in high school for an Evinrude dealer. Worked on mine and a lot of customer's. Engines were great except for the electrical system. I quickly learned to trouble shoot...

My 1960 Cruiser's has serial number 0 12613 and has 75 hp max and 987 pouds cap. My second one is 0C 13363 C there is no cap plate, this is a very orginl boat with maybe 30 hours max! Both boats has varnished decks and 1960 titles, for all that counts for. My seat cushions match yours as to design a...
