Mystery Guage

Ain't it obvious ...? It is a specialized compass to get you from point A to point Z and everywhere in between.

Hey Peter - When I lifted my Offshore off the trailer, I used one of those nylon towing straps (the one that says "Not for lifting" on the package). I attached one end to an eyebolt screwed into a pretty herfy joist and attached the other end to a comealong, which was attached to another e...

Revarnishing Mahogany

After owning the boat for 3 years, it is time for me to revarnish the mahogany on my Offshore. As usual, I have a few questions ... !. Is it always necessary to sand down to bare wood? 2. If not, how can you tell? 3. Is it possible to get a decent finish working outside (my boat will not fit in my g...

Thanks Phill, good advice. I knew, in the back of my mind, that any corrosion was bad. I think I was trying to justify my laziness - not getting off my butt and getting the new bearings. You are absolutely correct regarding $25 being cheap insurance against a miserable day at the side of a busy road...

Trailer Bearings

I have owned my Offshore for a little over 3 years now and just recently got around to repacking the bearings in my trailer. I now have a couple of questions that I hope some of you can help with. I have no idea how long ago the bearings were last repacked, there was a little "wobble" in o...

Joe - I also read with interest Txcapt's account of joint separation. I'm just finishing painting the bottom of my '57 Offshore. I have been amazed at the number of "patches" in the garplanks - there must be at least a dozen. Started me wondering about the "life expectancy" of th...

Lifting my boat off the trailer

I need to re-paint the bottom and the hull on my '57 Offshore. I have owned the boat for a couple of years and I have painted the bottom once, but the boat had been taken off the trailer and set up on the dock by a repair shop patching some rotted plywood on the bottom. This time around, I am using ...

Hey Jim - thanks for the help. I think I've got it working. My boat is a '57 18' Offshore - that's the northern end of Lk Washington it is floating on. http://img478.imageshack.us/img478/447/offshore3xt.jpg I appreciate your help. Are you making those license plates up? How do you get that image rig...

I am trying to post a photo and have tried to follow the instructions in the FAQ section, but can't seem to make it work. Is this a computer bozo issue or a Mac issue? I am a computer bozo using a Mac, so it could be both!
