Dan.. you mean at the very back...? in addition to the back to back seats?... I have a bench seat as a second seat, since I have the Runabout w/o the back to back seats. I believe that my Seacoaster ('60) is pretty heavy the rear anyway... I would hate to increase it... With the battery, two six gal...

Rick... I agree with Andreas... I had a couple of planks on the inside of my boat with some delamination... actually a little bit on my front deck also. I suggest Smith's Laminating and Layup epoxy (Although, I may have used Smith's all wood glue.. both are good).... squirt it in and press the layer...

For what it is worth... The Seacoaster I have, had a strip of fiberglass the width of the transom... It covered about 3" up the transom, and wrapped underneath perhaps the same amount. It was coming loose in a few areas, and it looked discolored.... Even greenish/algae colored....so I trimmed a...

Jaime... a couple other things I forgot to mention (in addition to acknowledging that I mis-spelled scrape) If the area that you have wood chipped/flaked/etc is cosmetic only, and is not painted, you could use a little L&L epoxy mixed with a filler... (I keep a tub of mahogany dust from sanding)...

Jamie... I am not completely sure what you mean by chipping, so I won't comment on that... Maybe you can post a picture... However, I have used most of Smith's products over the years...and they are superb.....the L&L Epoxy dries clear.... the Fill-it dries white... after CPES, you could apply t...

I posted on this topic in the past, but in short I ordered ZSpar Red Mahog, Interlux Red Mahog, Pettite Red Mahog, and Petite Dark Mahog.... I got a piece of scrap mahogany, and did about 15 or 20 test mixes in an egg carton, and applied to the wood. Four were 100%, then the rest were 50/50 combos. ...

Larry.. I wish I had twins on my Seacoaster... the 75 (1961) does a great job, but I would like the security of two engines, so if you have the option, I would go with twins. Although I have never had an emgine problem other than running rich, or losing prime, it is a 50 yr old engine... with old wi...

Evan.. for what it is worth, when I heard that Schooner Gold was replacing Schooner 96, I called Interlux. Fortunately, the technical person I talked to had experience with both of these, and said that he believed the new formula was better than the old. However, he said that because it has a little...

Evan.. did you get your varnish ?.... I can't find it anywhere... I ordered 4 qts. from Lacy Marine.... the order took, but they canceled it... In emails with the company, I understand that they are out.. (of Schooner 96)... I called West Marine and they said they have been out quite a while. Just c...

I would try 3Ms safe stripper... and use a nylon stiff brush... also try the least coarse Scotch Brite pad you can find... Then when the paint is out, you can use wood bleach (Oxalic acid I believe).. apply heavier and leave on longer where there are dark spots, and overall lightly, to make the wood...

On second look, although the pic shows a quart, the price of $17 looks like it is for a pint... so maybe you will have to do some more searching... maybe you can find a USBOAT or marine supply that still has the #96 at an old price... I last bought mine perhaps three years ago, so it is probably unf...

I just noticed that the Schooner that is available is GOLD.. I used #96.. I saw a quick reference that said the Gold is a replacement to the #96...and I guess there are some complaints for the Gold... I would search to see if you can still get the Schooner #96... one place is this site. http://www.m...

Evan.. I bought a two gallon kit of CPES... and used it on the inside bottom, but not above the floorline... I did not want to strip the old varnish, and CPES will cause old varnish to bubble up like stripper does. I used CPES over the stained transom, dash, deck, shearstrake, and gunwale... I belie...

For what it is worth, a recent issue of Woodenboat (I think Oct) has several articles regarding fastener removal...the authors described their favorite methods and tools. Dennis... it seems to me that the more support points to the hull, and the wider those support points are, the better. A bunk will probably spread the weight per sq inch better than a roller. I strongly recommend a Transon Saver... the one I have, I think I ordered from Cabela.... It is a square sle...
