Thanks Phill.
I've never heard of a sealed gel cell, but I'll look into it. I appreciate the advice.

Battery selection recommendations

I'm curious about the best type of battery to use for the following application: Evinrude 50hp with electric start, magneto and generator. Boat equipment would just be lights and a depth sounder. Might sit for a while at night with the lights on and the motor off. Good car battery, deep cycle, marin...

WOW. What a great bunch of guys and a super project. You've got us hooked now. Or as I say in the old car restoration field, now that you've got her pregnant, you have to carry her through term.
Can't wait to see the delivery! :D

This is a very interesting find, a piece of history, and I'm sure a lot of us are interested in her future. If it's not too much trouble, please keep us posted. :D

What a treasure. I would just get her running and wired and use her as is. They're only original ONCE. :D
(I would restore the trailer though)

You mention some good concerns John, but I'd think pressure washing still might be the best course. It will remove all the impacted dirt and any loose finishes. If the boat is indoors, it won't take long for it to dry out. Run a dehumidfier. You could use lamps or a heat gun to accelerate it.

Reproducing that paint should not be that hard. Automotive refinishers and suppliers have access (through PPG) to a hand-held spectrometer that can "read" the paint pigment content and download a mixing formula for lacquer, polyurethane or epoxy based paints.

Thanks,
This is Cortland built boat. Supposedly mostly all original with some minor scuffs and scrapes.

Andreas, That photo makes me sick!
What about the slight upward turn just before the transom that is seen in my photo??? What is the TRUE contour of the hull of a '61 Sea Lancer just in front of the transom???
