Re: Help! Deck varnish

Gaff, I think you are putting too much on if the bevels are filling up. Try thinning out the varnish and applying less. I generally cut my varnish by two parts varnish to one part thinner for the first couple coats on bare wood, then I used a varnish cut about 3 or 4 to one part thinner for the rest...

Re: '55 Thomboy HP Rating

JALL, The 14 foot 1955 Thomboy is rated at 25 HP as it uses the 14-55 series hull per the rating chart. It is rated for a 33 HP or a 50 HP for racing per the chart. I am running a 35 HP on my 14 foot Super Deluxe Runabout which has the same series hull as the Thomboy, with out any problems. I have a...

Re: 1963 22' Thompson Sea Lane Cabin

Lapstrakelouie,

Looks great! Must be fun on the water. You will have to think about bringing it to one of our Rally's in Marinette, WI., the next one should be in 2015.

Good Luck,

Re: Windshield barckets

Steve,

Nice work. They will look good on your boat.
I bought the deck gasket material from and outfit in Minnesota that handles Chris Craft part. I used 1/4" pexi-glass for my wind shields which worked well and no breakage problems.

Looking Good.

Good Luck,

Re: 62 Sea Lancer deck construction

Mike, I would leave a little space between the bulk head and the hull to allow for any expansion of the wood over time. I would think that an 1/8 inch would be fine.

Good Luck,

Re: 62 Sea Lancer deck construction

Threesheets, Make the bulkhead/ dash fit the hull. Remember these boats were made in sections by different people and on wood mold forms and the decks and other items with in the hull were done at different locations with in the plant by different people. Hull forms would not all be identical as a f...

Re: Cruisers Transom

From a wood workers point of view a few things I noticed are that the interior pieces at the bottom of the transom have there grain running parallel to the bottom of the transom, which would give you better screw holding power rather then if it were end grain. The pieces running vertically give good...

Re: inner stem/keel

Andre, Not knowing what tools you have available, I think you can do this a number of different ways. A chisel and mallet, a vibratory saw and chisel or a router with a jig to guide the bit which you can clamp in place. In any case I do not believe there is any way of doing it easily. I have not had...

Andre, Look under the History Tab on Dockside Views Andreas posted picture of the factory production line which might be helpful. I will try to attach a link here. http://www.thompsondockside.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3420#p7569 If this does not work look it up under "History", th...

Re: Steering wheel

JALL, Looking at the back cover of the Cruisers 1958 catalog the spokes are shown in the up position. I think depending on who installed the steering wheel the spoke location will depend on what they thought looked right. Accessories could be installed at the factory or installed by the dealers them...

Re: Lubricate remote controls

JALL, If you want to lube the inside of your remote control you can use White Lithium grease. Wash all the internal parts with solvent wipe them dry and then brush on a liberal coating of lithium grease and reassemble the control. Like Torchie, I lube the cables by running oil down the cable when su...

Re: Depth finder

Portside, I do not think it will work on a wood hull because of the porosity of the wood. Fiberglass and aluminum are solid without any voids. I installed one of these on a fiberglass sailboat I owned. The instructions advised that if you had a hull with a balsa wood core you needed to cut thru the ...
