Re: To Miles and Andreas

I am not sure what the confusion is here! The response that Andreas and I wrote to the ACBS is on the home page. For the record, we never received a response from the ACBS as the result of what was written to them. I don't know about Andreas but no one from the ACBS has continued the conversation w...

Re: To Miles and Andreas

I would also be very interested in reading the response that was referred to in the first post. It struck a chord with me because I've been very active in judging of certain model cars for many years. I've seen how awards earned from a venue with knowledgable judges result in increased values. I would be interested in knowing the correct color as well. My '60 Sea Coaster needs a new coat of paint and I want that blue parallelogram to be correct. The odd thing about my boat is that the only evidence I see of it ever being painted is that the splash rail is painted white, rather than the st...

I would look at the INSIDE of those areas to see if there was more damage that required wood replacement. If there's a HOLE there that is just "fixed" with putty, then new wood is required. (my opinion)

Thanks a lot. I'm into early '60s Chevys and some of the original materials are not available through reproduction sources. It's always nice to find an old upholsterer who has NOS bolts of material on the shelves. My original '60 Sea Coaster never had upholstery (must have been an option) so I'm doo...

Karl,
Does he only stock boat upholstery or does he also stock old auto stuff on bolts? The link didn't work for me.

Andreas, Thanks a lot for the photos. Even with only one good eye, I can see a texture in the light green in the first photo. It's there!
God, I wish my boat was closer so I could take photos too. She's all original.

I'd love to see a close up photo of that original texture, maybe with a dime on the floor (or a BB) to give it scale.

Andreas,

The original flooring material "was" a textured masonite, wasn't it? I know it's porous because I can't remove the soaked in fuel stains in mine.

Andreas, When looking at his photo above, I notice a gap between the stem and keel. When repairing that wood, would you butt those pieces together (glue them) or leave a small gap with putty in it to allow for expansion and flex???

Welcome to the site! Here's a photo of my original '60 Sea Coaster which doesn't have the metal brackets. All the varnish is original so I know the brackets were never there from new.
