Cleared out the bolt holes with forstner bits of the same size as the hole on the drill press. This created nice clean hol...

Re: Bottom Rebuild (prev. 'At a cross road')
Stripped the port side splash rail. A non-event most would say, surly not worthy of a post. But I was just so impressed on just how solid this piece of Oak is after 55 years and having spent so much time in water. Used a paint scraper, and then a block plane to strip the paint and fair the surfaces ...

Re: Bottom Rebuild (prev. 'At a cross road')
Another warm day in Delaware at 55 degrees so more stripping on the hull. I decided to try a heat gun over chemical stripper. I was watching "tips from a ship wright" videos on facebook featuring Louis Sauzedde (I highly recommend these videos, each is entertaining and informative). In one...

Re: Bottom Rebuild (prev. 'At a cross road')
Using semi-paste stripper on the hull is slow going. Going to try a heat Gun. Thoughts anyone?

working my way around the boat. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w35/thegammas/20160116_171336_resized_zpsqktadsad.jpg Damaged plank ends at the transom. This was covered up with a trim piece and some paint. Should be easily repaired with epoxy filler, but we shall see. http://i172.photobucket.com...

Re: Is it worth fixing?
Sounds like you are making some progress! Good news on the transom, that's a big big time & effort saver there. In response to your questions, If the sister keelsons are sealed with CPES, I don't think you need to paint them before installation, but hey it wont hurt so why not. Here is how I sup...

Re: Bottom Rebuild (prev. 'At a cross road')
Once again Spring in January here in Delaware at 65 degrees, so took the opportunity to prep the hull for some more paint stripping. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w35/thegammas/hull%20strip3_zpsk45jtoyw.jpg Wanted to remove the splash rail, so have to remove the metal strap to get access to the...
