Here's a picture from the Thompson Bros. Boat Mfg. Co. factory at Peshtigo, WI in the early 1960s. Just to give you some idea of what the hull looked like during construction.

Welcome aboard! Good luck with the boat. Where was the boat made? Is there a serial number plate giving the name of the manufacturer and location? This is very important to be able to interpret the hull ID you mentioned. Peshtigo and Cortland had different systems. The "52225" you mentoned...

Restoration website

Chuck Nagy in Michigan has created a new website devoted to his boat restorations. He was worked on several Thompson Boats in the past and has another one underway. He asked that I share his work with ya'll. He also asked to spread the word and says he'd like to get linked to related websites. http:...

You better not leave the stripper chemicals on the surfaces long enuff to have an affect on the adhesive in the plywood. The adhesive is most likely resorcinol or phenol resorcinol. I don't see chemical strippers affecting it. But then again, who knows. Again, you should not leave the stripping agen...

Miles Kapper had one for a short period of time. Send him a personal email.

I witnessed one running on a boat at a boat show a few years ago. It was smooth and very quite. I couldn't believe it was an old outboard motor!

There is a link to a Homelite site at www.fiberglassics.com

These boats built by Thompson, Cruisers, T & T and I will assume Grady-White, were made fast. At Peshtigo they made 5,000 a year. To speed production, they would nail items together first and come back later and use screws. This would get the baic shape of things and hold stuff together so it co...

The Sea Lancer was introduce for the 1957 model year. Her standard paint colour was white that year with lemonade yellow as an option. In 1958 lemonade yellow became the standard for the Sea Lancer with white as the option. Lemonade yellow was standard until about 1962 when battleship gray became st...

Your first asumption is correct. The planking is screwed into the ribs. The screws go thru both planks at the lap. Just sand off the paint and you will see the putty filled screw holes. Dig the putty out and clean up the slot and back the screw out. Easy peasy!

I would clean out all the old gunk at the joint between the gardboard planks. Sand it clean. Refasten the screws from plywood into ribs and keelson. Try to get all the bits of old broken screws out (from keel). CPES everything. Bung the old screw holes from the keel. If you will resue the existing k...

Hi Bill,When it warms up a bit (it's negative 14 F again this morning) I will go out and look at my '57 Peshtigo Sea Lancer. I do not think the floor support along the hull should be 1 1/2 inches below the sister keelsons.I also think that your trailer could be causing some of the problem. I suggest...
