Re: Hooked bottom
i don't think that you would get the stringers and keelson to bend permanently back to original shape. too large dimensionally. maybe the ply and the ribs. maybe with a lot of steam. but i think that this would just weaken the old wood. i have been thinking on this a lot for at least a year! i'm thi...

Re: Hooked bottom
don't soak the wood! this will just cause rot, as you figured. you could try steaming, but i don't think that you can get the ribs soft enough. i assume they are oak? i have a similar situation. the bottom is hogged (hooked) but all of the wood is in very good condition, so i don't want to take the ...

Re: sea coaster stringers
thanks Andreas.
i guess that i'll just have to cut them out. i was hoping to be able to save the wood to reuse some where.

sea coaster stringers
can some confirm for me how the 2 longitudinal stringers are attached on the sea coasters?
i'm thinking that they are through fastened from the bottom through the ribs and into the stringers. i wont to remove mine without tearing up the bottom.

Re: Planning Surface
regarding the planning surface; as stated it relies on many things... However, planning basically comes from the flatter, horizontal surfaces of the bottom. and especially the aftermost portion. the boat i have has concave areas in the bows were the boat sank into the supports there too. and I think...

The thickness of the transom shouldn't matter if you through bolt engine.

I'll Post photos when I can. The boat is still under winter cover.

The stamped in number are very Difficult to make out. I think I'll have to strip the varnish to see the rest.
