I've used the "shock" treatment on stuck fasteners and it has worked well. Make sure your screwdriver tip fits the slot very snugly and hit it hard a few times. Stuck threads resist turning but if the screw gets shocked lengthwise, it sometimes breaks that bond between the threads and the ...

Thanks Joe. I've had some good conversations with FR about the motor and some suggestions on another site about using a 60hp reed plate and intake manifold. Mine seems to be an odd duck because it doesn't have the fuel dump tube into the exhaust. It's very conservative on fuel and doesn't load up du...

'58 Evinrude Fat Fifty

I was just wondering if there were any members here who have a lot of experience with this motor. Mine seems to run very well but I'm a sponge for more information about it. Tricks, service guidelines, improvements, lore, etc would be most appreciated. The only thing I DON'T want to hear is what gas...

Andreas, What is TSP? I was thinking about cleaning out the bilge of mine with Purple Power.

Oh, and that hole in the bottom might have been for a depth sounder.

My '60 Sea Coaster is very similar to yours, but without the hull liners and padded dash. Mine is also a very nice original boat but it did leak like a sieve the first time out. I figure it's just the old caulk that's dried up and a bit of wiggling of the screws from bouncing on the water. My plan i...

The 3M 5200 is $25.00 per 10oz tube. The Sikaflex 221 is $6.25 per 10oz tube. How many tubes will it take to do your lapstrake? Try a Google on the Sikaflex product. Compare the specs on tensile strength, tear resistance, shear resistance, movement, elongation and shrink. Sikaflex can also be sanded...

I also need to re-seal the planks below the waterline in my Seacoaster so I did a search on that product right after reading your post. A lot of people advise staying away from that product unless you want the repair to be Permanent! Some recommend Sika-flex instead and also advise to stay away from...

I feel even worse than you Peter. I can't even go out to the garage and look at it. It's in IL and I'm here in NJ.
