Used 3M #1 rubbing compound, still need to finish with 3M #2 polish to get swirls out and have the big shine. Gave out, maybe tomorrow.

Peter, last pic was best! Safety 1st. Wore the respirator and had no issues during sanding and painting.

Re: bottom repair and refinish
Top coat sprayed friday. Saturday wet sanded keel, garboards, and port planks with 1500 grit. Had to quit, too sore! This am will build fire in heater and finish sanding...let the buffing begin. When finished will get the gammas to post pics, as i am not there yet.

Oh, do not get too aggressive with the pick; steel as opposed to soft brass when cleaning the Phillips heads..

Re: Bottom Rebuild (prev. 'At a cross road')
thought you were not going there...tried counting them and everytime came out differently. between 1300-1400, best guess. Snap-On has some great picking tools; prepare to use both hands as the cramps will occur. One row at a time...have fun!

Re: Bottom Rebuild (prev. 'At a cross road')
Ooou. Have fun with that! Stripping has been the nastiest, worst part yet. I used multible scraping tools, and da w/ 80 grit. Had to fully complete sections at a time, or mental issues might have prevented completion. Daunting, at least! But, looking back so far, it has been a blast!

Re: bottom repair and refinish
Yesterday morning applied 2nd coat of primer. Happy with the coverage this round! Later in week plan on blocking with 320 grit and seeing how that goes...still leaning toward acrylic enamel, spraying it on.

Re: bottom repair and refinish
The gammas (peter) has kept me motivated and on task. Since we were in early spring, i snugged all screws and bolts. Then, coated with cpes. After week cure, i filled all holes with rage gold since it was well above 50 deg. I spent 3-4 days sanding and refilling. Then, got the toybox semi- clean and...

Re: Bottom Rebuild (prev. 'At a cross road')
Get ahead, Peter! Looks great. Loved seeing the bottom of yours. Different from mine...does yours slide in the turns? As you know, mine has the 8' keel that i had to have re-made. Have Fun!

Re: bottom repair and refinish
I have spared everyone of my ignorance because I lost the ability to post from my phone...But, I have cut out and fixed the rotten place on the keelson. I have also cut and fit the two rib pieces, along with 2 strips of bottom ply to connect to the bottom of the center, high piece of the keelson. On...

Re: bottom repair and refinish

Thanks Andreas for encouragement to clean and pick ALL bolts and screws. Plan to caulk, then tighten all plank bolts. I wil...
