Got a small start

I removed the splash well from the back of the boat last night. Bronze screws must have been cheaper back in the day, I swear I removed 30. They were all in great shape so I plan to reuse them. I am going to replace all the ply pieces in the splashwell though. It looks a bit ratty and I am sure Ill ...

My master plan is to have the boat upside down with the equivalent of 4 sawhorses that go full width from side to side. I want to secure them together to end up with a flat plane to sit the boat on, kind of a ladder formation. Ill screw/clamp the boat to the rack to hold it in place. I have a simila...

Bill, I asked Andreas about this last year when I thought I was ready to flip my boat. My plan was to build a "rack" out of 2x4's for the boat to sit on. I figured I could level the legs of the whole unit with shims or adjustable feet/casters. The obvious reason to have everything plumb an...

Nice looking boat, different.

What concerns me is the bunks of the trailer do not extend past the transom. Hopefully there isn't any damage from that. I would correct that ASAP.

Welcome to the fold.

Too cool to see that Andreas, thanks. I think that is where I turn to head home from work everyday (obviously had changed a LOT since then).

False economy using parts from another thompson for mine?

Local guy has another thompson just like my boat. He started the resto and has to get rid of the boat. My boat will need garboard planks, and a few laps replaced. His boat has the pieces my boat lacks.. False economy getting this boat to use the pieces? I am pretty sure I can pick the boat up for ba...

Just got a quote from a local wooden boat restoration specialist for a complete windshield assembly for my Cruiser's Inc project - - - - $3,500 unvarnished. 50 hrs of labor at $65/hr and $250 materials. When I think about it, 50 hrs sounds very reasonable and with overhead etc, a shop rate of $65/h...

I read the Dannenburg book, and found it to be a great read. It had me a bit freaked out until I figured out a lot of it didn't apply to lapstrake boats. I still learned a lot though. I read it before I decided to buy a wood boat.
