That's my suggestion too. Make a new one. It most likely is made of white oak. If you try to salvage one from another boat it could be more effort and time and end up having decay, splits, nicks, in it, ect... Not to mention trying to find a boat to canabilize.

I started and completed the database for T & T BOATS, INC. of Wausaukee, WI. 52 boats total. And again, a number of entries are very incomplete. One is only a guy named Stu with a 1961 boat. No model, hull ID, complete name or contact information. If you have a T & T or know of one, get in t...

Thompson database What's your boat?

I have finally started to get the database initiated for hull ID and serial number of boats made by Thompson Bros. Boat Mfg. Co. at Peshtigo, WI. Up to now, I have done this by hand on index cards (really!!) I have gotten all known to me Thompson of Peshtigo boats entered. I have 379 entries total (...

Here is a picture of glued laminated white oak frames/ribs being shipped from Unit Structures at Peshtigo to the ship builder at Manitowoc, WI. This is in 1952 and the ship under construction was the USS Valor, an AMS class 165-foot long minesweeper. http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee189/Thompson...

Hey Peter. That's GREAT. I have a connection to the Kalmar Nyckel!! NO, I am NOT Swedish. Uff Da - I am 100% Norwegian. My employer at Peshtigo, Wisconsin made glued laminated timber framing members for the ship. And if ya wanna do the Kevin Bacon six degrees of separation thing...Sentinel Structure...

Just so everyone is understanding, the two photos from Peter are of a "Thompson Boat Company of New York, Inc." boat made at Cortland, NY. This was AFTER the split from Peshtigo in 1959. Cortland made their hull framing differently than Peshtigo.

The "keel" is on the outside of the hull. Some folks here on this forum call it "keel cap." It's just plain and simple called "keel." Same applies to large ocean going ships. "Keelson" is inside the hull. It runs the length of the boat. It is onb top of the ke...

Are you having nightmares about sinkng? "Natural floatation" was a term used very often by Thompson et.al. I suuposes this indicates the natural bouyancy of wood. It's nothing I ever thought about and have no fears. I have used my wooden boats on Lake Michigan and Lake Superior. I have no ...

I paid $70.51 per sheet for 3/8" x 4' x 8" Meranti marine plywood this past summer. Got it for a local marine plywood distributor. This is BS1088 certified material. Used it for decking on a '61 Peshtigo Sea Lancer. For Okume 3/8" BS 1088 certified I paid $77.54 per sheet in June 2006...

I cannot make any logical comments about your list to starboard.

The bow down while operating is most likely caused by the book in the hull.

Isn't it fun to see a professional restoration shop? Our Bob Speltz Land-O-Lakes chapter of the Antique & Classic Boat Society (www.acbs-bslol.com) has winter educational workshops. Often times they are held at a professional restorer's facility with the restorer giving the "class." We...

Thompson, Cruisers, Inc., T & T Boats, Grady-White lapstrake boats were all built over a form or jig. The hull was built upside down. Keelson, stringers, and inner stem were put in the jig first. Then came the steam bent ribs. Transom was fitted at some point. Next the planking was placed on the...

Boating in MN this time of year?

ya, u betcha! I was boating today!!!! UNREAL...for this time of year. It was close to 70 F which is unheard of. Global warming I guess. Lake Minnetonka west of Minneapolis was wonderful and actually had a fair amount of activity. The navigational buoys are gone so I was cruising by memory and "...
