The picture is the deck of a 1961 Thompson Bros. (Peshtigo) Sea Lancer. The plywood is 3/8 inch Meranti. It is stained with Z-Spar "Standard Mahogany" stain, then sealed with one coat Old Salem Sealer and about 11 coats of marine spar varnish - Interlux Schooner No. 96. NO bleach. The boat...

Meranti BS 1088.

I had been using Okume BS 1088, but the local supplier is not stocking it any longer. He said Meranti is better anyway.

I used it on the '61 Peshtigo Sea Lancer I restored this past summer for the deck. Looks great.

I have used combination of nails, screws and 3M5200 adhesive to apply plywood decking to the framing. Nails and screws get countersunk and puttied.

The deck of your Grady White boat most likely had a crown to it originally. Your best bet is to remove the existing plywood and either make new, crowned deck beams or add shims to the existing deck beams. Then reapply the plywood (or put new plywood on her). All of the 1950s and 1960s Thomspon boats...

My first impression was a SHELL LAKE SNIPE. Shell Lake Boat Company was located at Shell Lake, WI 1904-1980. They made wooden boats up to about 1957.

She is a 1963 Sea Coaster model #1673. Serial number is in the 1963 range and the hull ID indicates 1963. The code letter "A" is Bill Luedtke. So he worked on this boat. He still lives outside of Peshtigo. Centerline length is 16'-6" and gunwale length is 18'-1". The only odd thi...

Yes, screwed thru the floor boards into the risers or ribs.

Thanks for the nice comments. I suppose you are asking about the deck on the 1961 Sea Lancer. If yes, it is stained and varnished plywood. Same can be said for the 1965 Sea Lancer I restored a few years ago.

65 Sea Lancer Deluxe Seats

Hey all, The next restoration project I will tackle is a 1965 Thomspon Bros. (Peshtigo) Sea Lancer Deluxe. This is the one with "seat-a-beds," the fold down back-to-back seats. Sadly, the seats are missing. I wonder if anyone has such a boat or seats from such a boat? I'd like to get some ...

I have a small stained and varnished mahogany floor trim in the 1957, 1958, 1959, 1961 Thompson Bros. Sea Lancer boats I have worked on. It is about 1 1/4 inches wide and 3/8 inches high. It is screwed into the floor riser supports or ribs. Use cap screws with a decorative washer. On the 1965 Sea La...

Fun to see another Thompson sailboat. The Sea Gull was also a W F Crosby design. Many boat builders made them. Mine is sitting in storage at Peshtigo, WI, right across the alley from where it was built! You should bring your Red Head to the sixth THOMPSON ANTIQUE & CLASSIC BOAT RALLY. It is held...
