Re: My Apology

Would it be possible to create an area for passing on info ( not by the seller ) about boats or equipment advertised for sale in places outside this forum such as Craigslist? I know this creates a possibility of being abused, but it might be helpful to someone looking to buy or just looking to see w...

I have had Interlux Briteside on the bottom of my '59 Sea Lancer for the last few years and seems to be doing fine. Mine is used like yours, only in the water a couple days at a time at most. I don't have CPES on mine, so I can't help with those questions. The trailer is hard on the paint, but I gue...

Check out one of the last entries on " The Boathouse " page on this site. There are 2 different types of gasket - the one between the deck and the windshield frame, and the one that presses into the dado around the frame to hold the glass in place. I hope that helps.

It depends on if the boat spends extended periods in the water, or if it kept on a trailer. If it is left in the water for extended periods you should use an anti-fouling bottom paint. Most have a copper powder base and the paint naturally leaches off slowly. That prevents any "hitch hikers&quo...

I live in La Crosse and know of the owner, but I don't know him personally. I have not seen the boat, but he is known for his restored antique cars. The boat is probably as nice as he says, but it better be for the asking price.

I would check the H.P. rating for the Sea Coaster. I have a '59 Sea Lancer and it is rated for up to 90 H.P. As long as you are in that ball park and the boat is sound, I agree with Andreas. I think the reason for running a lot of twins back then was larger H.P. motors were few and far between and w...

My '59 Sea Lancer has a through hull bilge drain that looks a lot like that. Is it near the transom? Mine is about 6" forward and about centered between keelsons on the port side (from memory, since she is all tucked away for the winter). Nice looking rig. I thought I was lucky to have the orig...

I used foam brushes this past spring. It turned out great with no issues. It was nice to just throw them out instead of the job of trying to get that expensive varnish brush clean. I would make sure they are quality foam and not the cheap ones. The cheap ones tend to start falling apart after you us...

My '59 Sea Lancer has a drain that goes through the bottom of the boat near the transom. On the outside it is cup shaped with an opening towards the back. Inside it is a brass plug that screws in. Just for convenience I have a bilge pump mounted to a 3-4 inch square piece of aluminum to keep it upri...

Running it that rich I think the only thing you need to worry about is using a good brand oil. The oils now days are much better than when these motors were built. I have a "63 Merc 85 hp and have been told by several mechanics at dealerships to run mine at 50/1 using good oil instead of the 24...

I found Ace brand Spar Varnish at the local Ace hardware store. It has UV filters and one suggested use is marine. It went on nice and looks great and best of all it was only about $15. This is in Wisconsin but I was having a hard time finding it around here in paint stores and marine dealers withou...

I would think you would be able to find them on line someplace. As for price, it is hard to say how much they will cost not knowing how hard they are to find. If they are anything like a merc they are simple to replace. Just one stainless bolt on the top and one on the bottom, both easy to get to. G...

Welcome Portside, This is a great site, and as you can already tell if someone doesn't know the answer they usually know a site where you can find it. I agree with Andreas on the www.fiberglassics.com site. I can help with some of your questions since I own a '63 Merc 85 hp. Yes you can run the moto...

I have a valve on mine that the previous owner had 3 six gallon tanks hooked up to that were under the rear seat. I replaced the 3 tanks with 2 twelve gallon tanks. Since we would have to pull off the seat cushions. lift the seat, and then change the hose from one to the other in cramped quarters, t...
