Re: Weight of 1959 Thompson 16' runabout?

The 1957 SEA COASTER models weigh: model 473 = 415 pounds; model 475 = 425 pounds; model 477 = 465 pounds This is, of course, boat only with NO motor, fuel tanks, battery, coolers, picnic baskets, trailer, etc... This information is on the CD-ROM/flash drive of old catalog scans which can be purchas...

Re: '53 Thompson Thomboy Refinishing Project

True Brad, my state of MN registration ID on the hullside is a decal. There are sign shops that specialize in boat registration and names. The array of fonts and colours and sizes is amazing.

Re: '53 Thompson Thomboy Refinishing Project

There are numerous strip-built Thomboy photos in various albums in the facebook page of Thompson Antique & Classic Boat Rally, Inc. and my person page Andreas Jordahl Rhude. I do not agree that the red bottom is good looking. And certainly do NOT paint a red boot stripe on her if you change to t...

I do not know if there were other builders of similar hulls.

Re: '53 Thompson Thomboy Refinishing Project

cool THOMBOY.

Change the bottom paint to the factory correct white. Not a big task. Probably do not need to strip the red off. Just scuff it up, clean, and paint. May take several coats to cover up the red tho.

Re: What is this boat - "Molded Ply Lap Hull"

Cool looking Thomboy in the first album.

The second album shows the "Molded Ply Lap" boat. Most likely she is a "Wagemaker" made at Grand Rapids, MI by Wagemaker Company. The hull may have been molded by their subsidiary firm called US Molded Shapes, also in Grand Rapids.

picture of a pretty boat

"My Six Sons" last Friday at the classic boat cruise in Madison, WI. What fun it was to cruise all around the lakes in Madison with 20 other vintage boats! The boat was purchased new by my father in 1965 at the liquidation auction when T & T went belly up. Actually he purchased two unf...

classic boat display Madison 06 Aug 2016

There is a classic boat display on Lake Waubesa in Madison, WI on Saturday 07 August 2016. Held at Christy's Landing.

I will be there with the family's 1964 T & T Boats, Inc. 18 ft. Breakers lapstrake outboard.

Come check out the boats and get some sun burn!

Re: Sea coaster transom

They are two layers of solid lumber nailed and screwed together. Probably some adhesive from the factory as well. But on the boats where I have disassembled a transom the adhesive was pretty much gone. The outer layer of wood is horizontally oriented and the inner layer is vertically oriented. Faste...

Re: sea coaster stringers

Welcome aboard. If this is a boat made in Peshtigo, WI, you are correct. Stringers and keelson are placed into the building jig in the factory. Ribs are steam bent and one nail is quickly driven from rib into stringer and keelson to hold it in place. After all ribs are in place, a screw is driven fr...

Re: Grady White Deck Removal

Is the deck Philippine mahogany plywood? Is the riser white oak?

You will not be able find that plywood but Okume and/or Meranti marine plywood are suitable substitutes.

Re: Grady White Deck Removal

Welcome aboard

I have never seen a Grady White Boat up close let alone worked on one.

I suspect the deck plywood is nailed or stapled to the framing. It might be screwed. You need to take a close look at it to determine attachment method.
