Phenolic Laminate overlay
All I am going to be looking at a 65' Thompson Offshore (apparently its a 65' and from WI, according to the owner) that is for sale. In reading my Thompson brochure material I see that in that year a Phenolic Laminate was used over the strakes. Does anyone know if this was applied after the strakes ...

Thompson vs Lyman restoration
All Don't mean to start a Thompson vs Lyman war here, ... but have a restoration question. I have been looking for a Thompson for a while and was set on an Offshore (1960-1965 ish) outboard and have been reading this forum for quite some time on how to restore one. What I like most about the Thompso...

Dan Great photos, thanks. And congradulations to a job well done, she looks great! I always had a question about scarfing. I see in Dananberg's restoration boat he talks about removing planks entirely from the boat and scarfing on a bench. Then I later read (probably in Woodenboat) about having the ...

Hey Brian Out of curiosity, was this guy named Sean from Lake George NY that you bought the boat from? I recall the boat if so. I actually looked at it. However convinced myself I needed a bigger boat like an offshore. I think I would have taken it if the size wasn't the issue. Glad to hear it found...

Mirror finish paint job
Hello I was wondering how people get perfect mirror like finishes on their paint jobs after having fixed or pieced in a piece of a strake. Is there some kind of surface putty or bondo like material that is used to cover up imperfections prior to painting? I was at a boat auction in Clayton NY this s...

Hi Guys, Nice Thread, hope some are still reading!! Evan, I thought you were going to sell your boat!!!! Guess not, glad to hear!!;-> I have a scarf question. I was reading in some Wooden Boat forum about preparing a scarf that has some ratio of length to depth (can't recall the ratio right now). Th...

Engine weight
Thanks Peter My big concern would be the weight of the new 4 strokes on the wood transom. I was not too concerned with exceeding the weight of the allowed load in the boat. Thanks for your input. Since I am still boat-less, it is not too big of an issue right now. Keeping my eye out for a 19-20' off...

offshore
Andreas Thank you once again!! :D . Unfortunately I forgot to look for the number stamped in the boat. This is interesting though, I just saw a 68 offshore on CL for sale. I was looking over my brochures on CD and I notice that those later year of wood boats had the fold down benches on the sides an...

Offshore year?
Hello Looked at what I suspect is an Offshore. Can you enlighten me. Plate on the transom indicates Thompson Brothers, serial #28124, length 20'-1" (but this might be off a bit), width was 97" amid ship (this may be off as well). The boat was from Peshtigo WI, says on the Thompson emblem o...

Weight concern, new engine, Offshore
Hello all I am considering buying an Offshore I found recently, ... at least I think it is. Its approximately 1963-64, 19-20 foot Offshore, outboard, WI built. I will know more next week. General question, I want too potentially put a new outboard on it but concerned about weight. I will be more tha...

Winshield height
Andreas Thanks so much for the info. I will pass along to the current owner. What is the major work with the seat move. It looked like it sits on a rail on which it can slide back. I assume it would have to be cut to width a bit as the boat obviously narrows as you go back and the seat fits tight wi...

Hello All Still not an Thompson owner, but always looking. Looked at a 62 Sea Lancer, Thompson Boat C0. (or so I think, serial #56111). I am a rather tall guy, nothing fits me (6'10"). This was my first time in a Lancer. First thing I noticed is how low the windshield was. The top rail was real...

1960 ebay boat
Peter Thanks for thinking of me. I think that was a Sea Coaster, not a Sea Lancer. I was looking for a 17 footer, anyway, I appreciate the history leason!! This boat helps to explain a bit. I noticed on another Coaster made in Cortland that the windshield frame seemed 'thicker' than what I was used ...

I live just east of Syracuse NY. But would be willing to travel. In fact I became interested in a 59' Sea Lancer on CL recently in WI that I was willing to travel for but the guy never returned my calls or emails. Found another on ebay being auctioned by some Chicago inner city org. IT was a 61 Lanc...
