Lifting the boat with the lifting ring on the front deck (if the boat has one) and the ski tow rings on the transom is not a big deal. You can hang the boat from these for short periods of time. I'd suggest supporting the motor somehow if you are leaving it on the boat during the left.

The floooring on all the Peshtigo made lapstrake boats from the late 1950s and into 1960s was 3/8 inch thick tempered hardboard, as far as I know.

3/8 inch marine plywood will be just as strong if not stronger.

NO NO NO NO NO. CPES is not a solution to repairing rotten wood. Remove the rotten wood and replace it with new, appropriate wood material. CPES is a sealer. The fiberglass on the outer keel was probably someones stop gap measure to fix a leak. It may be the cause for the rotten ribs in the bilge. R...

I certianly did not intend to imply that your situation was hopeless. I said that it sounded serious. Serious problems can be resolved. You should see some of the baskit cases I get! Weights while the boat is in the water will not do any good in my opinion. You are fighting all the water pressure on...

Nope, you will not be able to find the tempered hardboard type of flooring. I have a '59 Sea Lancer that I will start working on soon and the floor needs replacement. I will probably use 3/8" Douglas fir marine plywood and cover it with Nautolex vinyl. It will not be original but it is an appro...

Not to alarm you, but it sounds serious to me. If the boat has mushed into the trailer - that indicates to me that there is serious decay and/or broken framing and planking.

Brochures for Thompson et.al. are available for sale on a CD-ROM from Dan Miller at www.dragonflycanoe.com The Take-Along was introduced about 1947 and made at Peshtigo until 1962. According to your serial number this is ABOUT a 1957 boat. The hull ID stamped into the wood of the transom will give t...

Hi Dan. The pictures help immensley. It appears to be a TAKE-ALONG model. Am I seeing planking on the inside of the boat (starboard side), on top of the ribs??? If yes, that should NOT be there. If the hull planking is very thin boards about 1/4 inch thick and their widths are about 4 inches, then I...

Is the planking off the boat?

Is it lapstrake planking? or strip built? or canvas covered like a wood/canvas canoe?

Is there a hull ID styamped into the wood fo the transom, inside the boat?

Is this an open rowboat/fishing boat or does she have decks and seats, etc...?

Do I understand this correctly? There is NO support on the last few inches of the boat's length and that area has drooped down? That is a serious problem. Get the motor off. Re-support the boat hull properly with complete support under the transom. It could be possible that the fasteners from planki...

Hello and welcome. If this is a boat made by any of the Thompson firms, NO the fiberglass was not a factory item. It was added by a previous owner.

My 1957 Sea Lancer had a 1967 Mercury 110 HP on it from 1967 until last year. No problenms with the transom. I did not change motors because of problems, but because I wanted 1957 motors on my 1957 boat. Replace the rotten wood - that's your first order of business. As "txcaptdan" wrote, m...

Don't overlook places with old fiberglass boats. Much of the hardware used by Cruisers et.al. was generic off the shelf type material.
