Paint! Finally
Very Pleased so far with the paint job. Several more coats above spray rail and then a blood red spray rail. I may take some heat for not sticking with original colors but after seeing a boat with with Kirby's Green Gray, I had to use it. I felt it would set off natural mahogany deck & transom. ...

Deck Wood Variations
Last week I posted some Mahogany I milled for the deck on the boat I am working on. I was pretty impressed with the look of the wood. It is very even in tone and grain. Well today I milled the remainder and was disappointed in the look of the wood compared to the first run. https://app.photorocket.c...

mahogany deck boards
Took advantage of the 70 degree weather today and milled some of the deck boards. Ripped and re-sawed out about 70 lf. Will do remainder next week. Setting up to mill the shiplap. 40 year old mahogany. Should be nice! Steve https://app.photorocket.com/galleries/ebef6748-6c86-4437-bfa1-762ee9212c83/m...

Sealing joints
I have been advised to fill gaps in cedar strips with sealant.
There are some superficial gaps that are not very wide or deep.
Is there a rule of thumb as to what should be done with sealant and what can be filled with epoxy fairing putty?
Thanks
steve

Re: filling & fairing
I have been using Sika flex.
I have no experience sanding and painting this type of material.
They all say on the tube it can be done.
Do they finish pretty well?
Thanks

Steering Mount
Trying to adjust the steering mount for a little better angle. Because the dash is being replaced, I used the old one to mock up a an option. https://app.photorocket.com/galleries/ebef6748-6c86-4437-bfa1-762ee9212c83/medias/1bb1673c-0a04-4035-b17d-200af0882c12 https://app.photorocket.com/galleries/e...

Finishing the outside
Well it has been slow going but I am about done with the interior of the boat. I have refinished the seats, seat supports and dashboards and have 6 coats of varnish on the inside after about 90% of the ribs were replaced, replaced the transom and the stringers. 2 more coats of varnish to follow. htt...

glue or no glue
The original knee on this little 12' boat I am doing was screwed and glued to the motor board of the transom.
I am not sure if this is the proper thing to do with the new one I am installing.
Can anyone provide any insight on this?
Thanks

question about oak
I am ripping some air dried white oak for some miscellaneous pieces and found a dark streak running through some of it. Below are two photos showing what I found. https://app.photorocket.com/galleries/ebef6748-6c86-4437-bfa1-762ee9212c83#/medias/d07a325f-1113-41ff-a882-0d4bcf60cd9c https://app.photo...
