Phil, thanks for all the ideas. I am planning on building a steamer out of a pvc pipe and a propane fired boiler. Hope to have it ready this week. I will need to find someplace to presoak the wood a day before steaming.

Phil, I also found the string packing on my TVT. This was between the garboards and also between the garboards and the first cedar strip. How much restoration work have you done on the TVT style boats? I need to replace all the short ribs and all the cedar strips between the spray rails. I am lookin...

Bill, I made some stands out of scrap lumber and carpet remnants. They work excellent no matter how is boat is turned. You may want to strengthen for your heavier boat but it may work for you. I can rotate my boat by myself or position at just about any angle up to 45 degrees. Below is the link and ...

What type of cedar to use. Red or white?

Is there a difference in red or white cedar? I need to replace the garboards and a couple of strips on my TVT.

Andreas, I have removed the deck from my boat. On the underside, there are two places marked in pencil, that say 14-54. One is on the back of the dash and the other is on the center deck support. I am wondering if they mass produced the decks or if they were built to fit each specific boat. They als...

Andreas, the only concern would be if I would ever want to remove the stringers in the future. This would now be impossible since I am considering on fiberglassing up to the spray rail. The only reason to remove in the future would be for rot repair; which 'should' not be a problem again. The string...

How to remove the Stringers/Sister keelson

I have a late 40's TVT and I am in the process of replacing the short ribs that run between the stringers. These short ribs are nailed to the stringers from the bottom. Are the stringers just held in place by these nails?? Were the stringers attached before cedar strips were screwed on? How do I att...

I remeasured the boat and found it is closer to 54" outside the gunwales; 54 1/8" to be exact. I measured the length of the gunwale; 14' 3" while the tip to transom is 14' exactly. Does it matter which way you measure? Looking forward to the sales CD to check out the different models ...

Andreas, Here are some pictures of the old boat. http://www.flickr.com/photos/53928052@N08/show/ The first was last year while out fishing and the rest show the boat this year being stripped of finish and repairs getting started. Note the picture of a decal I found on the spray rail. This looks like...

Andreas

I knew the year would be impossible but mostly wanted to get the model. It looks like one of the TVT models. I will remeasure along the gunwale, I measured tip to tip down the keel line. Will post pictures soon.
By the way, I grew up in the town of Grover.
