pink!! really?

my 1957 seacoaster deluxe (model 477) was painted dusty rose (my wife says it was pink). I have found traces of it everywhere! well, I'm not about to paint the whole boat dusty rose again. however, I would like to paint it that color below the waterline - a concession to it being a historical artifa...

outer keel/limber holes

I was about to attach a new outer keel to my '57 Thompson sea coaster using the original as a guide. then, I noticed that on the original keel the screw holes are every 6 inches and fall on top of the intermediate frames. won't this interfere with the limber holes? or does the water run around the s...

outer stem

I've just dry-fitted my outer stem. because I had to make a new outer stem, getting it to fit tightly to the 58 year old planks presented quite a challenge. however, in some places a slight gap exist - maybe an eighth inch at the most. what caulk would be the best to use? or should I fill the gap wi...

decks

beginning to think about deck ideas for my '57 15' seacoaster deluxe model 477. when I picked up the boat back in 2011, it didn't have any decking and only fragments of king planks - for example, the forward deck's king plank was tongue and groove while the rear deck's king plank was a solid piece o...

fairing

I've begun fairing the hull on my '57 sea coaster. with all the screw holes filled with famo wood filler and using danenbergs suggestion of vertical marks along each plank, I've used #80 grit sandpaper to begin - the hull had been striped to bare wood before I began. danenberg also suggests jumping ...

outer keel

with all of the pictures I took back in 2011 of the boat, I can't find a good shot of the outer keel and its distance from the transom. this is a 1957 15' sea coaster deluxe (model 477). plus, I had to shorten the boat by just over an inch. BUT, I do remember the outer keel did not reach the transom...

thompson OR thompson bros.?

I was looking in the ACBS directory the other day in order to call some of the owners and noticed an individual who also had a 15' Thompson. however, his boat was listed under Thompson brothers. just curious as to what the difference is between the two - I'm just guessing it has something to do with...

Re: '57 johnson

thank you all very much. the swap meet sounds like a good deal. I'm going to look for a standard cowling to trade for my javeline - I could never afford to have it rechromed. thanks again...

Re: limber holes

andreas, I apologize for the misinformation. the garboards are not yet installed, but all the frames are attached. any suggestions you can offer are much appreciated. I was thinking of taking my skill saw down the middle, but the boat is on saw horses and at my age the reach is too great where I wou...

limber holes

quickie! having replaced all the frames on my '57 Thompson sea coaster deluxe, what would be the best tool to use for making the limber holes? also, while I'm thinking about it, if you have one of these fifteen footers, on what plank would I find the water line? or do you determine this after it's i...
