staining the deck boards while I have them off??

Post by tcvc »

I am restoring a 1932 Thompson TVT. I had to remove the deck boards to make some repairs. Seeing as how the deck is 1/4" mahogany tounge a groove, I was thinking maybe I would stain the boards while I had them off. They are fastened with exposed brass screws, so this way I wouldn't be trying to clean them up after getting stain all over them. what thoughts do you guys have???

tcvc,

Go for it!
Nothing says you have to stain the boards when installed. As you said it will be a lot easier and you do not have to try to clean the stain out of the slot of the screws.

Good Luck,

Phill
