Transom tie downs

Post by Dan Wolf »

I have on my Tee Nee trailer tie downs that are chain with a knob on top that tightens the tension. They have a rubber coated hook on top that hooks on the top of the transom. Are these healthy for the boat? Or should I get something that goes to the transom bolt connections or strap over stern of boat?...Dan

Hi Dan,
When I bought my boat it had a strap that went over the gunals just behind the axle. That made no sense to me on a wooden boat. I put 2 large eyes on the trailer below the eyes on the back of the boat. I bought 2 shorter tie down straps and use them with no problems. I bought them at a sporting goods store and that is what they are designed for. It seems like that would be less wear and tear on the boat than over the transom and it does the same thing.
