supporting turned over boat

Post by jim »

I will be flipping my sea lancer over to work on the bottom soon and wondering what part of the boat should the supports holding the boat up should be against? Multiple frames? The inner keel? The gunwales? Thanks for your help, Jim

Hi, I put a 4" x 4" timber screwed into the rear deck/gunwale framing across the width of the boat right near the transom. This was to help the boat from spreading outwards and it was also used to supoort the wheeled dolly that I had. I also had one dolly at the bow deck. No supports here.

I only had the boat like this for a couple of weeks, so I did not have any addtional supports. All floor boards and seat framing was removed, along with hardware, steering wheel, windshield, motor well, etc... It is pretty light with all the stuff off.

If you are going to have the boat upside down for months, I suggest several cross braces at the gunwales to keep the hull from spreading and probably at least one vertical support from keel to a beefy cross brace.
