Another Thompson ID

Post by kaowb »

Found another great little Thompson!
Cedar strip has to be my favorite type of restoration.
HIN is C35216
Specs are:
LOA 142 1/2 +/-
Beam 52" +/-
Deck 48"
60 bead and cove cedar strips
21 Full ribs
The deck planks are cedar and it is a Cortland made boat.
Would be interested to learn the year and model, also
would the ribs have been White oak or ash?
Thanks in advance for any info.
Kurt

Nice little boat!

IF built by Thompson Bros., Boat Mfg. Co. at Cortland, NY, the hull ID "C35216" would indicate a 1945 or 1955 model year boat, the 216th made that particular year. The "3" would indicate that this was the fourth year that this particular model was being built.

She looks like a 1955 TVT Runabout model 323 12-50. The gunwale length is 12 ft. and beam is 50 inches.

In 1945 they had model 206-D TVT Runabout which looks pretty much the same as the 1955 version.

Both these boats had a 48 inch planked deck.

Framing material is white oak. I am not aware of Thompson ever using ash.

Thanks Andreas,
All great info, any way to determine if it's 1945 or '55??
By the type of fasteners?
Style of brass manufacturers ID plate?
Is TVT an abbreviation for something?
Thanks again,
Kurt

TVT = Thompson V Type

No real means to determine if it's 1945 or 1955.
