Not a Lap-Chine?

Andreas,

I'll post some better images and my measurements next week. The boat was listed as a 1962 15 Ft. Thompson Runabout by the seller. I didn't see anything like that in the '62 catalog, but the boat (especially the location of the spray rail) looked pretty close to the image of the '61 Lap-Chine to me (a 14 foot boat). Could it be a '62 Sea Skiff?

The hull ID was listed as B20730 Q 5A. If that doesn't mean anything I'll check further after I pick her up.

That looks to be a real nice boat! I think its one of the nicest little Thompson's that has come on Ebay in a long time!! ( I check every Day!) I think it is special in that it was built with all wood interior,Wood deck.etc. And then came with a plexiglasss windsheild...A boat that was made just before the Vinyl padded dash. Some people would think that this boat should have the wood windsheild. That would be of more Value......I wonder if the plexi was cheaper to equip at the factory.. Or if buyers started to ask for them...I guess a plexiglass windsheild is scene mostly on vinyl clad models , THey are scene on a lot of fiberglass boat s in this era. These are some of the things that caught my eye.

To be a true Thompson Brothers Boat Nut Is to have a few boats in different lenghts. That way you can pull the smaller ones to little lakes and rivers . Then have to bigger model to get out with your family/friends on the big waters. They all ride diiferent also ...So enjoy that Boat! Nice. nice. Nice! :D
One Again Nice boat.. ! Ron P

Ron,

Thanks for that feedback. This may be the proverbial "only cruised to church on Sunday" boat. The exterior condition of the outboard sold me.

I think the plexiglass windshield was an optional upgrade on some boats. It was probably consider cutting-edge back then.

I think I answered my own question. The length in the listing is a bit long, but the beam matches the 1963 Sea Mate. Location of the spray rail on the Sea Mate matches this boat, too. I'll check the ratings nameplate to confirm this.

I was fooled because the '62 Sea Mate was not shown in the catalog on the CD.

I am also confused by the hull weight of 650 pounds, which is 175 lbs. more than the est. weight of the '61 Sea Coaster, a larger boat. Why would it weight more?

Here are some pictures to compare. Its my 1965 Thompson Sea Mate.
The hull size is probably the same . Just check out the changes ...vinyl deck ,dash, seats and the wood windsheild. The picure of the boat in my garage shows the boat as it is now. I put on some dark mahogany stain that is wrong for the boat. ( your color is correct) Almost like a light maple.... I did stain the inside of the transom with Z-Spar 1082 Filler stain brown Mahogany thinned out. That looks better! Will turn boat back over and strip and sand to get the color right! Hope to do this soon but other things keep popping up. Wife/kids/work etc etc.

Here is a picture of a 1965 Thompson inboard. Note the color of transom and trim...It's a light shade... Not red . not dark brown.... It's a light maple color... I wonder why Thompson boats made this change.

Jim, that does look like a nice boat.
The hull and deck look the same as my '63 14' 10" Seamate, but the hardware, windshield and seat all are differant. The dash, on the other hand, is just like the one I made for mine.

Thompson made changes all the time to hull shape, styling, colours, fabrics, etc...

That 1965 boat is a full -V hull, note how the hull is V-shaped at the transom. I have never seen one in person.
